The purpose of this blog is to develop strong non-fiction writing skills while experimenting with different media genres and tones of writing.
Types of Writing:
Feature Article: A feature article tells a story in a more detailed and engaging way. It focuses on real-life situations and explores them through description, examples, and reflection.
Opinion Piece: An opinion piece shares a personal point of view on a topic. It is based on what the writer thinks, but it is supported with reasons, examples, and simple arguments.
Editorial Piece: An editorial presents a clear position on an issue in a more structured and formal way. It usually looks at a topic from a wider perspective rather than just one person’s opinion.
Pitch: A pitch is a plan for a future article, it explains the idea, what it will include, and how the topic will be developed.
Copywriting: Copywriting is persuasive writing used to promote an idea or product. It focuses on grabbing attention and encouraging people to take action.
- This piece uses a narrative approach to show a situation many people in the UAE deal with almost every day. It starts with a strong visual moment and follows a clear flow to show how traffic can get in the way of something important like prayer. The tone is reflective and a bit personal, focusing on the quiet stress that builds in those moments. The idea came from noticing how something as normal as a daily commute can affect people in ways we don’t always talk about.
Feature Article – “When Replies Become an Expectation".
- This article focuses on something very familiar which is messaging and the pressure to reply. It uses a simple and relatable style, building from everyday situations to show how replying can start to feel like an obligation. The tone is casual but thoughtful making it easy to connect with. It was inspired by how normal it has become to always be available, even when we don’t really want to be.
- This piece is more direct and focused on sharing a clear opinion. It argues that small daily movement can make a real difference, using simple examples and a few facts to support the idea. The tone is straightforward and easy to follow without being too formal. It was inspired by how easy it is to ignore small habits, even though they can have a big impact over time.
- This editorial looks at social media in a more balanced and structured way. It discusses both the positives and the negative sides using research to support the points while still keeping the writing easy to understand. The tone is slightly more formal but still relatable. The idea came from seeing how social media affects people’s confidence, focus, and even their relationships in real life.
Pitch – "Why Waking Up Early Feels So Hard"
- This pitch is written as a clear plan for a future article, it explains the idea, what it will cover, and how it could be developed, including possible interviews and research. The tone is practical and focused showing how the topic could turn into a feature article. It was inspired by how many people struggle with sleep routines, even when they know waking up early is supposed to help.
- This piece takes a more creative and persuasive approach focusing on encouraging people to reduce plastic use. It uses a strong hook and clear language to make the message feel realistic rather than overwhelming. The tone is modern and relatable, aiming to connect with everyday habits.
